APPLETON - Facing a growing price tag for post-retirement health benefits, the Appleton Area School District wants to get out of the business of paying health insurance premiums.

The proposal, up for approval at next Monday's Board of Education meeting, would cut back in increments the level of health benefits offered to retirees. All benefits already earned by employees would be honored.

The first change, which would affect employees who plan to retire during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years, would increase the amount of time employees need to work to earn benefits. ...
