Back on Dec. 12, when the University of Wisconsin beat UW-Green Bay in an ugly game at the Kohl Center, an assistant coach from another Division I team made the following statement about the Badgers:

"If Bo Ryan gets that team into the NCAA tournament," the coach said, "he should be national coach of the year."

At the time, Ryan's Badgers were 7-4 after beating the Phoenix by just 11 and appeared to be lacking the type of talent needed to contend in the Big Ten. ...
