Girls basketball: Northland Pines at Medford, 7:30 p.m. Friday - Medford's hopes of a Great Northern Conference championship comes down to its matchup with undefeated Northland Pines. The Raiders dropped Mosinee in a battle for sole possession of second place, as Katie Messmen scored 16 points to keep hopes of a title alive and escaped an upset bid from Lakeland in the past week. A win over Northland Pines will knot the Raiders with the Eagles in first place with two conference games remaining.

Boys basketball: Pittsville at Marathon, Saturday, 4:30 p.m. - Pittsville has surprised this season and sits alone in third place with a 7-3 Marawood Conference South Division record. With a victory the Panthers have a shot to climb into second place over the high-powered Raiders. Offensively, the Panthers have a dynamic inside-outside attack, with guard Brad Wesely and center Trail Pierce both averaging over 13 points per game. Marathon is staring a third conference loss in the face when it travel to unbeaten Auburndale Thursday, opening the door for the Panthers.

Girls basketball: Auburndale at Marathon, today, 7:30 p.m. - This is a key battle for sole possession of second place in the Marawood Conference South Division. Marathon won the first meeting by the slimmest of margins, 33-32 on Dec. 14. While neither team is likely to catch unbeaten Assumption for the conference crown, this is a pivotal game for seedings and conference positioning. Auburndale has a balanced offensive attack, with Nicole Nikolay leading the way, averaging nearly 11 points per game.
