What extracurricular activities have you been involved with during high school? In the past four years of high school, I have been chosen to be in the musicals and jazz band. I played basketball and softball for three years. This year, instead of playing basketball, I am the boys' basketball manager. I also joined in on the float committee for homecoming, and during my junior year I was on the prom committee. I played powder puff football. I also participate in Spanish Club, FFA, and Future Business Leaders of America.

What is one academic accomplishment about which you feel particularly good? One academic accomplishment about which I feel particularly good is being in the National Honor Society. I felt all of my hard work and studying paid off.

Which class or extracurricular activity influenced your decision regarding the career you plan to peruse? Throughout my life, I have always wanted to pursue the career of an elementary school teacher because of my love for children and having the will to motivate and encourage them to learn and succeed. I am very patient and am able to get across to them. I am pursuing the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher because I want to be able to help others and be a person they can look up to. I want to be able to make a difference in a child's life. The one class that definitely influenced me and made me want to stick to my decision was when I was able to go to the Kiel Elementary School and help out in a classroom. Working with the kindergarten and first-grade classes made me realize how much I want to be a teacher.

What advice do you have for those just starting their high school career? I would advise students just starting their high school career to always try their hardest and strive to do their best. Even though at times it may be very difficult, continue to push through and never give up because it will pay off later on in your life.

What is one high school memory you think you'll still be talking about at your class reunion decades from now? One high school memory I believe I'll still be talking about at my class reunion decades from now is during my freshman year when our boys' basketball team went to state and the band got to go along and play. It was a lot of fun and it is an experience I will never forget.

What are your plans after high school? I am planning to further my education at a four-year private college to get an early childhood education teaching degree.

Teacher recommendation: What makes this student stellar? "Mikayla Schnell is dedicated to achieving her full potential. Through her cooperative work with classmates, she has emerged as a leader in and outside the classroom. Most importantly, Mikayla is a genuinely kind person who approaches both people and challenges with a positive attitude. Her skills, disposition and intellect will ensure that she is successful in whatever endeavor she chooses." - Gretchen Mineau, English teacher
