Letter: Support work of Wisconsin Democracy Campaign

4:02 PM, Feb. 6, 2013  |  Comments

Like most of you I am tired of wealthy donors and corporations having disproportionate influence over our elected representatives. There is a group that continues to shine light in the Wisconsin Capitol's darkest places and makes it possible for people to see the money that is changing hands in state politics.

Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, a non-partisan program, has been following the money in Wisconsin politics since 1995. They publish their findings on their web site wisdc@wisdc.org. In order to inform the public, they show how all that money ($49 million in 2012) contaminates public policymaking by posting the donor databases. They are willing to expose government corruption and blow the whistle on wrongdoing. They are taking up the fight to protect voter ability to influence politics by challenging the attempts to make it more difficult for citizens to vote.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign has been recognized by national news networks, from Fox to MSNBC, and quoted in multiple news stories including the Wall Street Journal and Huffington Post. This group is losing some of its funding and needs support from the public to continue the battle it fights for us. Take the time to go online and see what they have been doing. I urge you to take action to expose this legal bribery and return the government to the people.
