Soup in hand-crafted bowls will help feed hungry

More than 200 bowls of soup served at a new Wisconsin Rapids event Saturday will help feed the hungry in south Wood County, even after those bowls are long empty.

The first South Wood County Empty Bowls fundraiser is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First English Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The event is an offshoot of the international Empty Bowls project, a grassroots effort to fight hunger. Stevens Point, Marshfield and Wausau hold similar fundraisers.

Proceeds from the Saturday event will go to local food pantries, including the South Wood Emergency Pantry Shelf. ...
