For the Assumption girls basketball team success begins with defense and it's what the program is known for.

It's been that way since coach Joe Birkhauser took over the program during the 1996-97 season.

"In high school I had a defensive-minded coach so that's what I knew," Birkhauser said. "I knew coming in that was has some talented girls who could score, they just needed to learn to play solid defense and that's where I started." ...
