Brown County Sheriff John Gossage says he has concerns about some of the gun-control proposals from the President Barack Obama's administration, but he hopes Congress "can get it right" when it comes to passing laws that will curb mass shootings in the U.S.

The sheriff encourages area residents to make plans to respond to an intruder. While acknowledging that it's rare in Brown County to be confronted by an intruder, Gossage said an appropriate response might involve using a gun.

"We're talking about protecting yourself in your own location," said Gossage, who was elected sheriff in 2010 ...
