Expert says tourism has role in recovery

Tourism is the front door to economic recovery, according to Roger Brooks, an author and tourism expert. "Tourism is the purest form of economic development. Tourists come and spend money and then they leave. It's about cash."

Brooks, who is president of Olympia, Wash.'s Destination Development, told a group of about 200 hospitality and government leaders Friday morning that in other parts of the country, tourism is back to pre-recession levels and it is a prime way to get more dollars flowing into this community.
