Fond du Lac County Department of Social Services would like to say thank you to all that have volunteered over the past year. We look forward to working with you again this year. We also invite others to consider volunteering.

The impact from volunteer activities within our agency is very important. Volunteers help to improve the quality of service, free up paid staff time, expand the types of services available to clients and increase public awareness and support for programs.

Volunteer support services have proven to be beneficial to all parties involved, offering a four-way win between: the recipient of services, the volunteer, the Department of Social Services, and the community.

The following is a quote from Diane Cole, volunteer: " As a volunteer at FDL Social Services, I am called upon to use my skills and abilities that would otherwise remain dormant. The organization allows me to work with a wide range of people and assist them to make their lives just a little bit better. In my case, volunteering here has increased my awareness of the community and allowed me to express my thanks to that community by giving back to those who have helped me in the past. My greatest reward: a simple smile or a thank you."

Current volunteer opportunities exist in the following program areas:

? Transportation- Providing transportation to Fond du Lac County clients.

? Mentor Program- Matching a young person in need of guidance and companionship.

? Food Pantry- Filling food requests and delivering food to the agency for families in need.

? Clerical- Assist with office assignments as needed.

? Friendly Visitor- Offering our client's friendship and encouragement on an individual basis.

? Student Intern- Opportunities for college students to facilitate necessary experience in the Human Services field.

If interested in becoming a volunteer please contact Fond du Lac County Department of Social Services, Volunteer Support Services Coordinator Deb Schneider at 920-929-3448.
