The Kiwanis Satellite Club at MPTC, partnering with Project Linus, welcomes the community to participate in a Tie-Blanket Event. The event will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Moraine Park Technical College in the cafeteria (Room A-10) at 235 N National Ave., Fond du Lac.

Reservations are appreciated, but not required. If interested in participating, contact Kathy Hass at 920-924-6436; or khass@morainepark.edu.

Anyone who can learn to tie a knot is invited to join in the fun anytime between 4 and 8 p.m. The average no-sew blanket uses a yard and a half of patterned anti-pill fleece, along with another yard and a half of coordinating color or print. Fleece material and supplies will be provided for this event; however donations of anti-pill fleece and other material or cash donations for future projects are always welcomed.

Project Linus distributes handmade blankets to children going through a scary moment in their life. "It can be anything from an illness to an emotional crisis; our goal is to provide comfort for children in need," said Chapter Coordinator Penny Kollmansberger.

Kollmansberger states in their first year in Fond du Lac County volunteers distributed about 200 blankets. This past year they've handed out more than 1,300 blankets. The organization delivers handmade blankets to places like hospitals and shelters to be given to newborns through age 18. "Blankets can be any size. They just have to be made out of new materials because some of these go to critically ill children," says Mrs. Kollmansberger.

The Fond du Lac County Chapter of Project Linus began just over seven years ago and has delivered more than 7000 handmade blankets to children worldwide. The majority of those were given to children in Fond du Lac and Dodge County.

Information about Project Linus or inquiries about donations can be directed to Penny Kollmansberger, Chapter Coordinator of Project Linus at 920-923-4273; or visit the Website at http://www.orgsites.com/wi/projlinusfdlcounty/
