Art Meets Heart gala: The Art Meets Heart community mosaic project was the culmination of 300 mini works of art on six-inch cavases. The opening gala was on Thursday, Feb. 6. at the ARTgarage, 1440 Cedar St., Green Bay.

Starting in March, the first thing visitors will see when they fly into Austin Straubel International Airport is a giant heart shape made of 300, 6-inch canvas squares, all designed by people from the Green Bay and surrounding communities.

"We want every square foot hung with original art," said Sandy Melroy, the event chair for the Art Meets Heart community mosaic project. "They're very eager to get public art at the airport, but they're looking to us to set the idea of how you do a public art installation that is fair to all, but yet open to all."
