Allegations of extreme violence surface against former Iola resident

Oklahoma prosecutor Richard Smothermon says Glendon Gouker - who is accused of bludgeoning a 19-year-old man to death and repeatedly raping his girlfriend - deserves to pay the ultimate price.

"The type of human being who can do that should never walk the earth free again," said Smothermon, the district attorney in Pottawatomie County. He is seeking the death penalty for Gouker, a former Iola resident, for the vicious 2010 attack in the small community of Prague, Okla.

"It's shocking, even for me," Smothermon told The Post-Crescent. "And I've been doing this for 23 years." ...
