Well armed: More women seeking gun training for sport, protection

Katy Prange received a somewhat unconventional gift for Mother's Day two years ago. Her husband paid for her session at the Sheboygan Rifle and Pistol Club's "Women on Target" clinic, a basic workshop meant to familiarize women with gun range shooting.

Prange, 35, said it wasn't the first time she shot a pistol, but it was the first time she took ownership of it because the clinic gave her the opportunity to learn the skills on her own.

The experience was exhilarating, Prange said, and now she aims to provide the same opportunity for other women by helping lead the clinic. ...
