Viglietti wins citywide regional spelling bee

Urban Middle School student Mimi Viglietti won the citywide regional spelling bee Jan. 28 at Urban Middle School.

This is the second consecutive year Viglietti won the event.

Ten students in grades five through eight qualified to participate. Students advanced from their school level spelling bee. Matthew DeTrana from Christ Child Academy took second, and Avinash Murthy from Lake Country Academy took third.

Students from Horace Mann Middle School, Farnsworth Middle School, Trinity Lutheran, Immanuel Lutheran, Sheboygan Leadership Academy, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and James Madison Elementary School also competed.

Viglietti will advance to the Badger State Bee in Madison.
