Francis Smazal, a registered nurse on the trauma/neuro unit at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, is the latest DAISY recipient.

Smazal has worked as a nurse on the unit since graduating in 2009 from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire satellite nursing program in Marshfield. He previously served as a summer nurse tech on the unit, and prior to that was employed at the Marshfield Care Center.

He was nominated by the wife of a recent patient on the unit who was undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation. She noted that her husband was very fortunate to have Francis as his nurse. "Francis was very on top ...
