Local Boy Scouts learn survival techniques during annual Winter Camporee

Spencer Howard spent much of Saturday laying on the snow-covered ground somewhere in Nepco Lake County Park.

It was his fellow Scouts' job to use a set of coordinates and a compass to find the 16-year-old Wisconsin Rapids resident and Lincoln High School sophomore, administer proper first aid for the particular scenario and transport him back to camp.

"I basically got to sit around and do nothing," Howard said with a laugh, while dodging rogue snowballs during some downtime Saturday afternoon. "The freezing makes you feel manly." ...
