Mayor expects referendum on attorney appointment authority

The Oconto City Council will on Tuesday consider overriding Mayor Victoria Bostedt's veto of an ordinance that takes the power to appoint a city attorney out of the mayor's hands and gives it to the council.

Even if the veto is overridden, Mayor Victoria Bostedt said she anticipates residents to force a referendum on the issue - though it may be more than year before it is decided.

The council approved the change in the ordinance at a special meeting on Jan. 21. ...
