Children's Museum hosts girls event
The Children's Museum of Green Bay will hold the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!" event from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.
Girls, along with their mothers, are invited to bring a favorite doll or stuffed animal and put on their favorite "dress up" clothes to enjoy a morning of pixie dust, jewelry making, karaoke and dancing. Children must attend with an adult.
Cost for the program is $6 for museum members and $10 for guests, which includes playtime in the museum after the event. Call (920) 432-4397 to register.
The museum is located at 301 N. Washington St. in downtown Green Bay.
Talk by Boone at St. Norbert
Herman Boone, a retired high school football coach who inspired the movie "Remember the Titans," will speak at St. Norbert College in De Pere next week.
Boone's appearance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Walter Theatre in Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts is part of the college's Black History Month events in February.
The presentation by Boone is open to the public with free admission.
Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington portrayed Boone, who coached in Alexandria, Va., in the movie.
Swan Club to host Scrabble Bee
The 11th annual Scrabble Bee, a fundraiser for Literacy Green Bay, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Swan Club at Legends Brewhouse & Eatery of De Pere, 875 Heritage Road.
The Scrabble Bee is an informal tournament played among teams that compete against each other using 100 tiles and a Scrabble board. The team with the most points after two rounds will be declared the 2013 Scrabble Bee champion.
Players don't have to be Scrabble experts to play.
The event also includes a family-style dinner, silent and live auctions, raffles, a cash bar and prizes.
The cost to sponsor a table or for individual teams of up to eight players is $400.
