Around the country, an anti-Valentine’s Day movement has humorous takes on the day with restaurant specials like garlic soup and various “love on the rocks” type cocktails made with bitters.
While that could happen here, locals appear to take a more jovial spin. Here are two places ready to welcome singles and groups of women:
• Cleo’s, a bar where “it’s always a holiday,” celebrates this holiday in a new way. It will host a Singles Party tonight from 6 p.m. to close. It’s the first time the bar has done this on Valentine’s Day. Singles can mingle, drink champagne and eat chocolate covered strawberries. The bar is at 203 W. College Ave. in downtown Appleton.
• Red Robin again holds its “Girls’ Night Out” tonight with the tag line “ladies can celebrate the holiday with their one true love —Red Robin.” All diners can order bottles of wine for half price and get the “Gooey Chocolate Brownie Cake” for $1.99 with the purchase of a burger or entree.
“Ladies can plan a date with their very best girlfriends at a local Red Robin with great food, wine and of course, chocolate, for the perfect Valentine’s Day,” said Denny Marie Post, the chain’s senior VP and chief marketing officer.
The local Red Robin at N109 N. Stoneybrook Road in Buchanan will get couples, of course, but expects to see some groups of women take them up on the offers. “This is our second year doing this,” said Matt Schwartz, manager. “Last year we did get groups of women coming in.”
