Feb. 14, 1952 - Truman lauds voting project: The President of the United States has recognized the De Pere Plan to achieve a 100 percent turnout at the polls in November and has given the project his personal endorsement.
President Harry S. Truman's interest in the De Pere project is indicated in a letter received by general Chairman John W. Yuenger. In it the President states: "May I take this opportunity to extend to you and your associates my best wishes for success in making De Pere the first city with 100 percent turnout at the polls. This is truly the American spirit."
The President's letter was read to members of the planning committee at a session Wednesday afternoon.
The first public event in conjunction with the vote drive is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27, when Harold Stassen, president of the University of Pennsylvania and former governor of Minnesota, will speak in the St. Norbert College gymnasium.
