Weird winter and spring weather last year put a serious dent in Wisconsin's apple and tart cherry crops - producing some of the lowest apple yields in almost 70 years.

The state's apple growers produced 23.6 million pounds of apples in 2012, the lowest figure since 1945, according to the annual report from the Wisconsin field office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Orchards yielded 51.4 million pounds of apples in 2011. ...
