Packers plot 'different direction' without Woodson

By not offering Charles Woodson a pay cut, the Green Bay Packers have signaled they want to get younger, faster and more athletic in their secondary.

Going into the offseason, it was clear the Packers wouldn't pay the declining 36-year-old defensive back the $10 million his contract called for this year. But Carl Poston, Woodson's agent, said that based on his telephone conversation with Woodson, team executives never brought up a possible pay cut when they informed Woodson of his release on Friday.

"I know there's a salary cap issue because of the kind of money he was going to make this year," ...
