Walker: Transit budget will boost major projects, avoid gas tax

Local officials expressed cautious optimism after hearing that the state transportation budget being proposed next week will continue to fund major projects without increasing the gas tax or vehicle-registration fees.

Gov. Scott Walker on Friday said his transit budget would invest $6.4 billion, including $824 million in new money. He said the plan will include sufficient funding for maintenance of existing transportation infrastructure and will enable ongoing major projects to remain "on track."
