Fondy's Van Beek breaks school record at state swim meet

Fond du Lac High School junior Cameron Van Beek entered the WIAA Division 1 state swimming meet seeded 23rd out of 24 swimmers in the 500-yard freestyle.

While he didn't reach the podium, Van Beek blew away his seed time and took 12th place in 4 minutes, 49.59 seconds. That's seven seconds better than his personal-best and sets a new school record.

"He was real excited. He had a huge grin on his face," Cardinals coach Glen McBride said. "I think he was a little shocked when he finished. It was kind of a goal, but I didn't really think it was going to happen." ...
