The Friends of Taylor Park & Pool, Inc. of Fond du Lac are pleased to announce that Atlantic Records recording blues artist, Grammy award and Blues Music award nominee John Primer, "The Real Deal," will be the headline performer, along with his Real Deal Blues Band at its second annual Taylor Park & Pool blues concert on Saturday, March 9, at the Elks Ballroom in Fond du Lac starting at 7 p.m.

John Primer, who has been playing a blues guitar since he was eight years old, has had a long and illustrious career since moving to Chicago in 1963, where he formed his first blues band, The Maintainers. Over the course of many years, John played with such 60's blues originators as Sammy Lawhorn, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Lonnie Brooks and Bonnie Raitt, all innovators sculpting the sound of the Chicago Blues.

Traveling through the U.S., Mexico and Europe, Jphn developed his skills as a rhythm guitarist, a lead slide player, and a powerful singer. The "Hoochie Coochie Man, Muddy Waters recruited John not only as a guitarist, but also as an opening act and bandleader. Fresh off the heels of his success with the Muddy Waters Band, he toured with Magic Slim & The Teardrops, bringing tight, house-rocking sounds to every corner of the planet. While John was the bandleader of that band, they were voted the best blues band in the world year after year and are still today thought of as the inventors of "the lump" Chicago Blues sound.

In 1995, the veteran blues man released his major label debut "The Real Deal," on Atlantic Records followed by his twelve solo albums to date, including his first release "All Original" on Blues House Productions, John's independent record label. With the "All Original" release, he has won the Blewzzy award, the Blues Artist of the Year award - male, and received nominations in 2010 from Blues Blast Awards, and the National Blues Foundation, for "Best Traditional Album of the Year" and "Best Traditional Blues Musician - male of the year" and recently was nominated for 2013 Blues Music Award's "Best Traditonal Blues - male artist."

Proceeds from this blues concert will help the Friends of Taylor Park & Pool, Inc. fund the purchase a climbing wall for the Taylor Park Pool and to expand hours at the pool during the swimming season for children and families - a joint effort in partnership with the Fond du Lac Area Foundation.

Concert tickets: Individual ticket prices remain at $15 each; and a reserved table of eight remains at $150. Individual tickets can be purchased at Wegners's Office Supply and Mike's Music & Sound.

Reserved tables (while they last) can be purchased by calling Karen at 922-8869. Buy your tickets early - the 2012 blues concert was a sellout!
