Altrusa International of Fond du Lac held a "While the Cat's Away" fund-raiser recently. Donated services provided by the staff at The Nail Box Salon and No Knots Therapeutic Massage were very much enjoyed and appreciated.

Fond du Lac High School students forming a string quartet entertained by providing music during the benefit. A special thank you goes out to Haruka Yukioka, Zak Zhou, Seth Veith and Ethan Pieper, who played under the direction of Kim Henning, orchestra director.

Door prizes were awarded to Debbie Schommer, Kathy Collies and Judy Dassow. Contest prizes were awarded to Haruka Yukioka and Laura Cherti.

Altrusa is a non-profit women's organization whose focus is on literacy and community services. Proceeds are used to fund high school scholarships; buy books for the Solution Center reading room; and purchase a bookcase and books for new Habitat for Humanity homes built in Fond du Lac.

Members schedule volunteers for the Adult Literacy program and Mobile Meals, as well as participate in the Make a Difference Day and bell ringing for The Salvation Army.
