Taylor Braun is a busy young man with a clear sense of direction for his life.

He goes to class at Valders High School, is the captain of its Mini-Chopper team fabricating a down-sized motorcycle, milks cows several times a week, and shows up bright and early at 7 a.m. every weekday at Manitowoc Cranes' Welding School.

"Welding is always something different ... with a different obstacle to go around," said Braun, who is one of 54 students enrolled in the Youth Apprenticeship program in Manitowoc, the highest number since inception in 1992. "I think I'm doing pretty good so far." ...
