Contractors

Amber Bliese, an employee of The Samuels Group, Wausau, has accepted a new position as project administrator. Bliese is responsible for shop drawings, project data submittals, change orders, contracts, meeting coordination, meeting minutes and project administrative support.

The Samuels Group is a commercial construction contractor specializing in construction management, owner's representation and general contracting for the commercial, health care, education and government sectors.

Education

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has been recognized for achievement.

Senior art major Ellen Larson of Wisconsin Rapids is one of 13 students in the nation to be named a Language Intensive Focus Track scholar. The inaugural honor provides a minimum of $5,000 to fund her CIEE Study Abroad program in Beijing. Larson hopes to become an art historian and curator of contemporary Chinese art.

The UWSP Disc Golf Club ranked ninth in the nation, won first place at the 2012 Great Lakes qualifier and was featured on the website of the Professional Disc Golf Association. The win earned the team home field advantage for the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships in April.

Doug Moore, a photographer with University Relations and Communications, won 16th place in Nikon's 2012 Photomicrography Competition for a micro photo of a fossilized Turritella agate. He also received an honorable mention for his micro photo of a fossilized stromatolite. Moore collaborated with Biology Department faculty members and used a microscope in the Parasitology Lab to capture the images.

The Helen R. Godfrey University Child Learning and Care Center earned national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals. The center also received the highest rating, five stars, through Wisconsin's new YoungStar program.

Health

Diane L. London has been accepted into the University of Michigan School of Social Work, Sexual Health Certificate Program studying for certification in sex therapy. London completed the following courses through the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor program: "Intimacy and Sexuality in Couples Relationships;" "Sex-Related Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of Psychosexual Disorders in the Current DSM IV-TR;" and "Sexual Health Problems." London also was accepted as a member of the American Association of Sexual Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

London is the director of Stepping Stones Counseling Center LLC in Schofield.

Charis Counseling LLC announced the addition of psychotherapist David Sliefert. Sliefert has experience working with a wide variety of cultures and populations. As a mental health generalist, Sliefert specializes in complex trauma/EMDR, relationship issues, anxiety, mood disorders, disruptive behavioral issues, parent-child and complex family issues. He works with people ages 3 through adult. He counsels children, youths, adults, families and couples.

Charis Counseling, with offices in Wausau and Marshfield, is a state-licensed mental health agency helping clients become emotionally healthy, contributing to healthy friendships, marriages and families.

Information Technology

The Dirks Group, a provider of cutting-edge information technology solutions, announced the hiring of Ellen Kaye as a sales account executive. Kaye will be responsible for developing new customer relationships and managing relationships with existing customers. She will work out of the company's Wausau office.

The Dirks Group is an IT solutions provider with offices in Wausau and Eau Claire. The company offers solutions for hardware, software and network design based on an expert analysis of the needs of each client. The Dirks Group offers expertise in cloud computing, managed services, voice services and network services.

Law

The National Board of Trial Advocacy certifies trial lawyers in the areas of civil, criminal and family law. A NBTA certification is a credential above and beyond a license to practice law. Alan E. Grischke of Grischke Law has been recognized as having 20 years of certification as a certified member of the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

? Shannon Murray, principal at Merrill Senior High School, is the new head of the Merrill Area United Way. David Johnson, city administrator, is a member of the United Way Board. Jane Dehnel retires as the 2012 president.

? Janelle Christensen, sales administrator at County Materials Corp., has passed the organizational management specialty exam administered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Christensen is a member of the Wausau Chapter of IAAP.

The organizational management specialty exam emphasizes a high degree of strategic and organizational planning, advanced communication, team skills and advanced office administration and management.

IAAP is the world's largest association for administrative professionals, providing career information, education, networking opportunities and certification programs. Sustainability

Mehrdad Nazari, corporate social responsibility adviser and owner of Prizma in Kronenwetter, has returned from a site visit to Lucara Diamond Corp.'s Karowe Mine in Botswana, Africa.

Botswana is the world's leading diamond-producing country and is rated as the least corrupt country in Africa. Nazari's visit was to collect data and generate Lucara's inaugural sustainability report. Prizma is a niche advisory practice focused on improving and communicating its clients' sustainability performance.
