A heart attack doesn't discriminate between men and women. But the symptoms a woman experiences often are different from the typical crushing chest pain men feel while having a heart attack.
Heart attacks in women are so prevalent that more women die from heart disease than they do from breast cancer, said Dr. Mateen Abidi, a cardiologist at the Marshfield Clinic.
"When a woman is having a heart attack, it's not like what we see on TV - the Hollywood elephant-sitting-on-the-chest feeling," Abidi said. "For women, 50 percent of them won't have the typical symptom of chest discomfort." ...
