Saying it would encourage competition and increase voters' trust in government, a Brown County lawmaker is proposing limits on the number of years that County Board members could hold office.

The proposal from freshman board member David Steffen of Howard would make Brown the only county in the state with a term limit for its supervisors, who are not considered full-time employees. Beginning with the 2014 elections, members of the board could serve no more than six two-year terms, meaning that 2026 would be the first year that the proposed limit would affect the board.
