The other day my 18-year-old turned on a professional hockey game between Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. Almost immediately a fight broke out and one player was laid out on the ice by a number of punches.
In other sports they divert the scene to the cheerleaders or some fans. But hockey, no, they showed the entire fight and followed the downed players inability to stand. Not only did they show it, they replayed it in slow motion twice.
We are desensitizing our young with a barrage of programming and video games that depicts people being injured and killed. We have enough problems with mental illness and our love of guns. Good people must come together because common sense must prevail and things must change.
