A former Merrill School Board president who was ousted in a 2011 election was the top vote-getter in Tuesday's primary that pared a seven-candidate field down to six.

Jeff Verdoorn, who served as the Merrill School Board president from 2008 to 2011, led with 979 votes with one Lincoln County precinct remaining to be counted.

The candidate who received the fewest votes, and the only one of the field who won't contend in the April 2 general election, was Vicki Lindstrom of Merrill, who received 425 votes. ...
