UWMC to offer girls STEM day

University of Wisconsin Marathon County and the office of Continuing Education will host a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics event designed specifically for sixth- and seventh-grade girls.

The educational event will take place on th UWMC campus in Wausau from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9. The goal is to expose girls to a variety of careers within the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Attendees will choose three cooperative, hands-on learning sessions that relate to their interests and abilities.

The sessions are being taught by local professionals who connect academic learning with real world applications. Session topics inclue fossils, meterology, veterinary science, biology and chemistry.

Due to limited space, early registration is recommended. The event cost $10 per student and includes lunch and workshops. For more information call UWMC Continuing Education Department at 715-675-6375 or visit www.uwmc.uwc.edu/continuing_education.
