Poor conditions likely to blame for US 41 pileup in Oshkosh

A surprisingly small number of injuries in a 27-car pileup in a U.S. 41 construction zone Tuesday afternoon likely was the result of decreased driving speeds due to poor road conditions.

Winnebago Sheriff's Capt. Todd Christie said many of the vehicles involved in the pileup were already traveling about 30 mph on U.S. 41 when the chain-reaction crash took place on the Butte des Morts bridge in Oshkosh. Christie said injuries could have been much worse had drivers been traveling at normal highway speeds.

Three people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. ...
