Dainty Daisies will close by May 31 in downtown Appleton. The vintage and handmade clothing store has been open at 227 E. College Ave. since Jan. 2012.

This is not goodbye, said owner Michelle Aspero. Im not closing my business. Im closing my storefront.

She plans to sell in the downtown Appleton farmers market this summer, and will still organize two craft shows in Oshkosh. Shell also sell her handmade clothing and accessories online and through home parties.

The storefront is a big responsibility and Ive seen a shift in retail sales in the last six months. People are spending less. Were getting more lookers and not a lot of buyers, she said.

While she said the space was a great deal and she was able to make her bills, she was concerned going forward.

For me, being a single mom and this being my only income, its not a good decision to keep it open. I can be more successful working from home and not having this overhead.
