Manitowoc ad selling child was teen's idea of a joke

When someone from Manitowoc placed an ad on Craigslist on Feb. 15 offering to sell a 4-year-old boy for $1,000, authorities took it seriously.

The ad, police learned Wednesday, turned out to be a high school boy's idea of a joke.

"Obviously this was a concern of ours because human trafficking does exist," said Detective Dave McCue of the Manitowoc Police Department. "Based on the content of the ad, we believed that a 4-year-old child was in danger. We believed that the ad was legitimate." ...
