The national weather service in Green Bay has issued a winter weather advisory for snow which is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

A band of light to moderate snow will push into the area between about 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday morning. A light snow will persist through the day on Friday before tapering off to flurries early Friday evening, according to the weather service website.

A total of 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected to fall by early Friday evening with the highest totals south of Highway 29.

East winds will increase to 10 to 20 mph Friday morning. The combination of snow and winds will lead to reduced visibilities and snow covered roads making travel hazardous for the morning commute.

Snow is expected to spread into central and east central Wisconsin by around 6 a.m. Friday morning, and then continue to spread into northern Wisconsin during the morning Friday. At this time, 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected to fall by late Friday afternoon with the highest amounts south of Highway 29. Lesser snowfall accumulations are expected north of Highway 29 throughout the day Friday.

The combination of treated roads and light snow could cause area roads to become very slick again Friday night as temperatures drop well below freezing.
