Wisconsin Rapids City Council approves term limits, residency requirements for utility panel

Members of the five-person panel that oversees the Wisconsin Rapids Water Works and Lighting Commission now must live within the city limits and may only serve up to two five-year terms.

In a 4-2 vote, the Wisconsin Rapids City Council approved the changes during its Tuesday meeting, with council members Marion Hokamp and Tom Rayome opposing the measure. Council members Bob Nash and Andy Nelson were absent from Tuesday's meeting.

"If you get somebody to serve on anything ... and they're doing a good job, why do you limit how long they can keep doing it?" Rayome said, noting if council members do ...
