Former co-workers happy deputy will recover

A 43-year-old Adams County deputy shot in the line of duty is expected to recover from his injuries.

Deputy Todd Johnson, who lives in Grand Rapids, was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a driveway at a residence in Big Flats on Tuesday evening when Thomas Costigan, 55, West Allis, pulled out a handgun and fired shots at Johnson and a Rome Police Department officer, Adams County Sheriff Sam Wollin said.

Both Johnson and Costigan were transported by helicopter to a local hospital where Johnson remains under medical care. Costigan died from his injuries. ...
