Women (as well as men and youths) are invited to World Day of Prayer at Christ the King Church, with women from 11 churches and other denominations participating.

The event will be held at 1 p.m. March 1. Christ the King Church is on Highway V (South LaSalle), south of Spencer. It is handicap accessible. Following the service, participants can adjourn to the dining hall for a "Little Taste of France."

World Day of Prayer, or WDP, is a worldwide ecumenical movement begun by Christian women of many traditions who come together each year to observe a common day of prayer. This movement is initiated and carried out by women in more than 170 countries and regions.

Each year, a different country serves as the writer of the WDP prayer service. In services all around the world, that country becomes the focus of prayers and understanding.

Through WDP, women affirm that prayer and actions are woven as one. The influence of prayer and action in the world is immeasurable.

The work of WDP is supported by offerings given by individuals at annual prayer services organized in each participating country.

The Christian women of France invite all to join them on this year's WDP. This year's theme, "I was a stranger and you welcomed me," was developed out of their experience of life as Christian women within a multicultural society. Within one single generation, migration will become the sole growth factor for the French population. That movement is hindered by political restrictions and an ever watchful eye on immigrant people.
