Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch announces retirement

Announcement follows Daily Herald Media investigation of Hoenisch's work hours

Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch announced Friday that he will step down from the position he has held since 2001 as soon as his retirement paperwork is completed.

Hoenish's emotional announcement came just three days after a Daily Herald Media report revealed the sheriff had been in his office for just 1.75 hours so far this year and about 22 hours since August. Hoenisch spoke in a room packed with news media members, local officials, members of the Marathon County Sheriff's Department and family members.
