LETTER: We are all fed up with government hypocrisy

North Dakota was complimented in print on Feb. 13 for harnessing natural resources, low unemployment and paying pizza delivery people $20 per hour.

Nothing against mining, but it's sad to see a pizza delivery person making more money than someone standing behind a prison wall keeping society safe from bad people, or teachers with master's degrees, or the job as I have done for 23 years in a Wisconsin community I love.

After adding benefits, some pizza deliverers make more than $20 per hour and more with tips, so they can average $40 an hour for delivering pizza.

I believe financial problems in public or private businesses could be solved by taking away the pay portion that covers mismanaged business shortfalls.

Life is about choices and my vocation decision is one I'll never regret, nor do I begrudge engineers or doctors for their determination, education and IQs leading to nice pay.

Public employees are rewarded in pay for job loyalty. I started working for less than $9 an hour, 23 years ago and recently hit $20.

I have questions, like why does the governor feel entitled to take money out of the public retirement fund? Why are hard-working people with insurance unable to have painful varicose veins removed because it's cosmetic, but Badgercare covers things like tummy tucks, implants, and face jobs? Why do my children have to go to the walk-in clinic but public assistance children see a pediatrician at will? Why are you talking merit pay for public teachers when some have 34 students in class and two miles away a Sage school class is 15 or less, yet you expect the same standard?

I believe conscientious, hard-working Republicans, Democrats and Independents are getting fed up with the hypocrisy, unproductive, self- serving, misleading government at state and federal levels.
