Neenah moves toward 'sober server' law

City officials have introduced an ordinance that would require Neenah bartenders to be sober and to refrain from drinking alcohol while on duty.

The ordinance would be the first of its kind in the Fox Cities and one of only a handful of sober-server laws statewide. Green Bay also is considering a prohibition on bartenders drinking on the job, according to details of proposals Gannett Wisconsin Media obtained through the Wisconsin Public Records Law.

"I would much rather it be a countywide rule, but obviously we can't control that," Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson said. ...
