Officials: Badger to begin sailing season May 6

Lake Michigan Carferry announced Monday the S.S. Badger will begin the 2013 sailing season on May 6, two weeks earlier than previously announced.

Spokeswoman Terri Brown stated the expanded season is in response to a request to transport over-dimensional loads of wind tower sections manufactured by Broadwind Towers & Heavy Industries in its plant on the Manitowoc River peninsula. The sections will be going to wind generation projects in Michigan.
