University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point juniors Trevor Hass and Clayton Heuer, a transfer from Division I UW-Green Bay, have been named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball team, while Pointers coach Bob Semling has been selected the league's Coach of the Year.
Hass, who began his career at Division II Augustana (S.D.), before transferring to UWSP last season, leads the Pointers in scoring at 12 points per game with a team-high 60 3-pointers made, while Heuer, a former Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln athlete, averages 10.9 points and a team-high 5.2 rebounds a contest.
Sophomores Joe Ritchay, who also played at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and ranks second on the team in scoring (11.2), and Austin Ryf, who tops the Pointers in assists (73) and steals (34) received WIAC honorable mention recognition. In addition, Hass and Ryf were each named to the inaugural All-Defensive Team
Pointers senior Jordan Giordana earned All-Sportsmanship honors and was named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete of the year. He owns a 3.83 grade point average and is majoring in business administration. He is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and a four-time recipient of the Wisconsin State Academic Excellence Award.
A two-year team captain, Giordana was a member of UWSP's NCAA Division III championship squad in 2010 and helped the Pointers earn a pair of WIAC regular season titles. He matched a school single-game record with nine 3-pointers against University of Texas Dallas earlier this season.
Meanwhile, Semling earned his third WIAC Coach of the Year award in the last seven seasons after guiding the Pointers to the regular season championship and a 14-2 record despite enduring numerous injuries to key players throughout the year.
