APPLETON - Fire crews doused a Chevy Silverado engulfed in flames at a residence on Benoit Street Wednesday evening.

When Appleton firefighters arrived on scene at around 7:15 p.m., the flames were just beginning to spread to a nearby garage, said Scott Karpinski, a public information officer with the department.

Firefighters first attacked the engine compartment of the vehicle before working on the garage area, Karpinski said.

"It was a quick knock," he said.

The department estimates the fire caused about $40,000 in damages, which includes the truck and garage. There was one vehicle in the garage that was saved.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
