Wisconsin exports rose in 2012

Wisconsin's merchandise exports grew 5 percent in 2012, reaching a record $23.1 billion, according to the International Trade Administration. The United States as a whole reached a record $2.2 trillion in exports of goods and services in 2012.

According to the ITA report released Tuesday, Wisconsin's largest trade market was Canada with merchandise exports of $7.6 billion, or 33 percent. That was followed by Mexico, $2.2 billion; China, $1.5 billion; Australia, $865 million; and Japan, $863 million.

The largest export increases were to Singapore, 40 percent; India, 39 percent; Japan, 17 percent; Australia, 14 percent and Belgium, 12 percent. Key merchandise categories exported from the state included machinery, computer and electronic products, transportation equipment, food and chemicals. See more at www.trade.gov/mas/ian/statereports.
