Feb. 27, 1956 - 20,000 pounds! That's fish take in ice derby: Watch the frying pans sizzle after this one!

Fishermen hit the jackpot Sunday in the Wilcox landing area of the bay where the De Pere Sportsman's Club staged its fifth annual Ice Fishing derby.

In one of the biggest mass perch harvests ever accomplished with hook and line anywhere, some 7,000 outdoor enthusiasts returned to shore at the end of the day with a whopping, flopping catch estimated at 20,000 fish.

Of all the fishermen on the ice, an 11-year-old Green Bay boy came in with the 1956 derby champ, a 14-oz. jumbo perch. He was Tommy Hayes of 927 N. Chestnut St.
