County begins distributing portable radios for new system

After discussing a new emergency communications radio system for nearly a decade, law enforcement agencies in Winnebago County are taking the final steps toward having the new digital system up and running.

Representatives from police agencies gathered at the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office Tuesday morning to pick up the portable radios that are compatible with the new 800-megahertz digital system that was installed to replace an aging analog system and meet a federal mandate.
